TRAINING
mama yOUTH
MAMA Youth Project is a TV Production Assistant trainee scheme which took place over the course of 4 weeks. During weeks 2 and 3 we were tasked with producing a short film written for us by Steven Knight. in which we would be required to take on one of the roles of a production team, as a result, I was assigned the position of Production Secretary and sustainability officer. during this time I would be helping pre-production with risk assessments, talent agreement forms and data entry. along with my other duties as a production assistant.
albert
since gaining this qualification it has instilled in me the importance of being sustainably minded and made me conscious of how much waste there is in production. during my time working a Licklmor production I was appointed sustainability officer and was in charge or sourcing recycled and sustainable materials for production as well as upcycling costumes and props. throughout production, I was constantly calculating our carbon footprint and inputting our fuel cost and waste output. which we had managed to bring down from our initial starting point.
Mark Millson
was also successful in receiving the Mark Millson Health and Safety certificate in which I learned about maintaining a safe working environment in production. this encompassed a wide range of skills that focused on safety on set. the importance of risk assessments and mental health support.
this is an industry-recognised qualification that is respected and practised across the globe. this has been at the forefront of all the productions I have worked on since completing the training and continues to be a huge factor in working in the industry today.
rOCK uP rEADY!
From February to April, I was lucky enough to earn a place on the Rock Up Ready! Scheme. This was a career launch pad bootcamp to help people who are at the beginning of their careers to meet with like-minded individuals and to train them on skills. The programme was led by Caroline Officer, an industry professional whom I worked with individually to identify how I could best progress within the television industry. During the course, I gained industry-recognised certificates in health and safety and environmental sustainability.
Create Central
this was an invaluable piece of training that took place over 4 weeks with a 2-week placement at the end. during the course, we spoke with industry professionals who covered every department from pre-production, to post. it was during this time that I had the opportunity to work closely with script editor Luke Frost as well as learn the process of working in development. after getting an in-depth and frank view of each department we were then tasked with producing a short scene using the skills/information we had been provided.
GALLERY37
I was incredibly lucky to be accepted onto the gallery 37 showcase. i was apart of the creative writing cohort and work alongside a wide range of talented writers and guest speakers who helped me to recognise new exercises to help the writing process, during the 2 week course i collaborated with the group to produce a variety of different works including poems (which i had never done before) SHORT STORIES AND prose. the end result was to be showcased at the Gallery 37 festival.
